The gate should be at least three quarters of the child’s height. If your child can open a gate or climb over it, the gate should be taken down. Baby Gate Rental orders placed within “2” weeks prior to your arrival will not be guaranteed.  All baby gate rental orders must be placed at least “48” hours prior to your arrival!  For baby gate rental orders placed within “48” hours prior to your arrival you must call our office at 843-215-2700 to confirm receipt of your request and product availability. Baby Gate Rentals placed on your arrival day will incur a “Same Day Delivery” fee and must be ordered before 12:00PM. Some orders may be delivered the following day.

Baby Gate Rental by Vacation Gear – Upon Arrival: Upon arrival renters must inspect all rental items for satisfactory condition. Unsatisfactory rental items must be reported to Vacation Gear within twenty-four hours of check in time. If unsatisfactory rental items are not reported within twenty-four hours of check in time items are then deemed satisfactory and the renter will be held liable for any damage found upon pickup w/out prior report to Vacation Gear.

Vacations Gear does not offer Refunds. Vacations Gear will replace your item, offer alternative equipment of a comparable value, or issue a credit for a future rental.  Please report all requests for exchanges or additional equipment by 12:00PM to ensure same day service.  Requests made after 12:00 PM will be serviced the following day.

Baby Gate Rental by Vacation Gear – Additional Items upon Check in: We recommend making all additions to your baby gate rental order prior to your check-in day to guarantee availability. If you need extra items after your initial baby gate rental delivery, we require a minimum order of $200.00 for free delivery. If your additional items are less than $200.00 a delivery fee of $35.00 will be added to your rental request.  Additional items to your baby gate rental order will be delivered the day following as our trucks are pre-packed a day in advance.  If same day delivery is necessary, a “Same Day Delivery Fee of $75.00 will be added to your order.

Baby Gate Rental by Vacation Gear – Departure Preparation. You need not be present during rental equipment pickup. At the conclusion of your stay all equipment items should be washed with fresh water before returning to remove all corrosive salt and sand from the items. Most properties have hoses available under/beside the house. Return all rental equipment to the location to which it was delivered to you. Please secure all equipment with locks if ordered or provided complimentary to you. Every effort is made to pickup all items between 9:00-10:00AM. Depending on your pickup location on the driver’s route your pickup time may vary. Various equipment can be picked up on separate vehicles/trucks.

Ocean Competent: Being water competent in the ocean requires stronger and different skills than in a pool. Whenever you are at the beach, ocean, or other open water environments, watch and prepare for changing tides, fast-moving currents, and waves, even in shallow water. Drop-offs that unexpectedly change water depth. Hazards, such as underwater obstacles, rocks, and debris. Vegetation, marine animals, and fish. Other people’s activities in the same waters, such as boating.

Watch for unexpected changes in air or water temperature. Thunder & Lightning. Leave the water immediately, if swimming offshore. If you’re out in a boat, head back to shore as quickly as possible. If you’re unable to get to shore, lie down in the bottom of the boat or shelter in the cabin if available. Enter the water feet first for your safety! Always enter unknown or shallow water cautiously. Only dive in water clearly marked as safe for diving, at least 9 feet deep with no underwater obstacles.

Never dive headfirst into surf! Do not enter the water from a height, such as a bridge or boat. Be careful when standing to prevent being knocked over by currents or waves. Swim sober. Supervise others sober and without distractions, such as reading or talking on or using a cell phone. Swim with a buddy even in life-guarded areas.

Baby Gate Rental by Vacation Gear – Rip Current Information

Rip currents are powerful, narrow channels of fast-moving water: Rip currents are common along the East, Gulf, and West coasts of the U.S., as well as the Great Lakes. They can move at speeds of up to eight feet per second—faster than an Olympic swimmer. Many people panic when caught in a rip current and try to swim directly back to shore, which can lead to exhaustion and drowning. In the U.S., lifeguards rescue tens of thousands of people from rip currents each year, but about 100 deaths still occur annually. Rip currents can pull you down and hold you under water. If caught in a rip current, stay calm and don’t fight it. Swim parallel to the shore until you are out of the current, then return to land at an angle. If you cannot swim out, float or tread water until the current weakens. If needed, signal for help by waving and calling out.

Before entering the water, check for warning flags and ask a lifeguard about conditions. Stay at least 100 feet away from piers and jetties, where rip currents often form. If someone else is caught in a rip current, get help from a lifeguard or call 9-1-1. Throw them something that floats and give instructions, but do not attempt a rescue unless you are trained.

It is unlawful, between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 7:30 a.m., for any person to leave, or place any equipment on the public beach, if it blocks public use or interferes with beach maintenance. Any such equipment will be removed. Any umbrellas, tents, canopies or any other form of shading device left on the beach between 7:30 p.m. and 9:00 a.m., or left unattended, will be removed and disposed of.

Beach umbrellas and other beach paraphernalia:  Items should not be placed in front of lifeguard stands. Place them in a line parallel to the shoreline on either side, keep them behind the stand so the lifeguard’s view is clear, and do not leave them unattended.

As lifeguards move their stands due to the rising tide, all shading devices shall be moved to the west to maintain the lifeguard’s line of sight. It is unlawful to place any obstruction on the beach in such a position that it will interfere with the ground-level vision of a lifeguard.

Emergency Lane: It is unlawful to place any beach paraphernalia within eight feet of the dune line. This area must stay clear for emergency vehicles and personnel. Emergency access paths to the beach must always remain open. In the event of an emergency, the police chief or designee shall direct that additional temporary emergency access lanes be created until no longer needed.

Sand fencing and dune walkovers: Sand fences and walkovers help rebuild and protect dunes, which protect people and property during storms. Do no move, damage, lock, or attach anything to the sand fences. Also do not place, attach, or store any items on or under dun walkovers. The dune line is the area just east of any walkway, step or crossover-not the base of the dunes.

Holes on the beach: A cubic yard of sand (3′ x 3′ x 3′) can weigh as much as 3,000 pounds – therefore people who are buried in sand cave-ins suffocate. Don’t dig over two feet deep. A hole deeper than two feet can cause serious injury if someone accidentally steps in it, and if it contains water, it poses a drowning hazard for small children, and a trap for sea turtles.

Beach flags warn swimmers of ocean conditions and potential hazards. The flags are part of a system developed by the United States Lifesaving Association and the International Lifesaving Federation

Yellow – Medium hazard. Moderate surf and/or currents are present. Weak swimmers are discouraged from entering the water. For others, enhanced care and caution should be exercised.

Yellow Flag/Central Black Ball – Surfboards and other non-powered watercraft are prohibited.

Yellow-Halved Red Over Yellow – The area is protected by lifeguards. These flags may be used in pairs spaced apart to indicate a designated area or zone along a beach or waterfront that is most closely supervised or patrolled by qualified lifeguards, and where swimming and/or body surfing is permitted. These flags may be used singly to indicate that swimming is permitted in front of the area where the flag is flown, and that the area is under the supervision of a qualified lifeguard.

Red – High hazard. Rough conditions such as strong surf and/or currents are present. All swimmers are discouraged from entering the water. Those entering the water should take great care.

Double Red – Water is closed to public use.

Red/White – quartered – Emergency evacuation. Swimmers should leave the water because of an emergency. Emergencies may include, but are not limited to, dangerous marine creatures are present, such as a shark, the water is contaminated, or lifeguards need to perform a search of the water area, for example search for a lost child. (The double red flag may alternatively be appropriate.

Purple – Marine pests, such as jellyfish, stingrays, or other marine life which can cause minor injuries are present in the water. This flag is not intended to indicate the presence of sharks.

Black/White – quartered – Flags may be used in pairs spaced apart to indicate a designated area or zone along a beach or waterfront used by those with surfboards and other non-powered watercraft.

Orange Winsock – This cone shaped device is used to indicate the direction of offshore winds and to show that it is unsafe for inflatable objects to be used in the water.
