Home to South Carolina’s 2nd longest and most accommodating piers, at 1,060 feet long, 36 feet wide, with a 110-foot T at the end, also voted “Best of the Beach”. It is a Myrtle Beach landmark, and the site to several fishing tournaments. The pier holds the record for largest Spanish mackerel catch at 125 pounds! The original pier has unfortunately had several run-ins with hurricanes throughout its 67-year history and was destroyed by Hurricane Hazel in 1959, rebuilt and then destroyed again by an airplane crash. The pier you see today is not in the original location and was also once destroyed by Hurricane Hugo in 1989, and almost completely wiped out from Hurricane Matthew in 2016. The new pier finally opened in July of 2020. Springmaid Beach is resort and neighborhood community, straddling the city limits of Myrtle Beach, lying north of the Myrtle Beach State Park.
